Abstract

Starting point: Multiple sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease with a significant impact on quality of life. In addition to modern pharmacological treatment, lifestyle factors (such as diet, mental health support, and sleep patterns) and, above all, physical activity play an important role. The traditional Eastern system of exercise known as yoga integrates movement with breath, relaxation, and self-awareness, providing comprehensive benefits across a wide range of health conditions.

Objectives: Analysis of existing research focused on the impact of yoga on the quality of life of people with multiple sclerosis.

Methods: A systematic literature review conducted in the spring of 2025 examined the impact of yoga on the quality of life of individuals with multiple sclerosis. The search was carried out in the PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science databases using combinations of relevant keywords. A total of 1,344 studies were identified; after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 352 studies remained. The final selection comprised 11 studies.

Results: The included studies indicate that yoga has a beneficial effect on various aspects of health in individuals with multiple sclerosis. The most frequently observed positive changes were related to balance, fatigue, mood, psychological resilience, and functional mobility. Although the methodological quality of the individual studies varied, the majority describe yoga as a valuable complementary therapeutic approach within the comprehensive care of these patients.

Conclusions: Due to its physical and psychological benefits, exercise therapy using yoga can be recommended as a suitable part of comprehensive rehabilitation for multiple sclerosis.
