Abstract

Background: The Manchester respoiratory of daily living questionnaire is presented in the article as a tool suitable for assessing the self-sufficiency of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), such a tool is missing in the Czech Republic. The article describes the methodological part of the standardization of the questionnaire.

File and methods: The standardization process is subject to methodological conditions, this article discusses the pilot investigation phase in detail. In this case, a pilot study was conducted on 20 experts from practice and 20 patients with COPD. The comments that arose from the pilot investigation were further assessed, discussed and incorporated by the expert committee together with the author and the translators.

Results: The pilot study shows that of the answers from all respondents, only 5% (840 answers, 42 comments in total) of them had a comment on the wording of the question. The largest number of comments came from occupational therapists and physiotherapists, accounting for 2.4%.

Conclusion: On the basis of pilot testing, the 1st Czech version of the questionnaire could be advanced to further methodological steps, after the completion of which the questionnaire will be able to be put into practice, creating a tool for objectifying the level of common daily activities.
