Abstract

Starting point: Fascial systems play an important role in the musculoskeletal system, especially in the transmission of mechanical force, maintaining stability and overall functionality of movement chains. Their dysfunction can contribute to the development of pain, performance and movement stereotype disorders. Fascial manipulation is a therapeutic approach aimed at influencing these structures.

Group: The study included 240 members of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic, divided into an intervention (n = 120) and a control group (n = 120). The respondents come from an elite military unit with high physical demands. The intervention group underwent a standardized fascial manipulation protocol, while the control group continued in a regular military training regimen without the application of specific manual therapy. Both groups continued in standard physical training throughout the study period.

Methods: The evaluation was carried out using structured data collection focused on subjective pain (VAS), dynamic stability of the lower extremities (Y-Balance test), functional stability of the ankle joint (Side-Hop test) and functional performance (3000 m run). Measurements were carried out before and after the fascial manipulation intervention and subsequently compared between groups. Statistical analysis includes comparison of changes and assessment of the effectiveness of the intervention.

Results: The intervention group showed statistical improvement in all monitored parameters compared to the control group. There was a reduction in subjective pain, improvement in dynamic stability of the lower extremities and an increase in functional performance.

Conclusions: The results indicate a potential positive effect of fascial manipulation on the functional state of the musculoskeletal system in a physically active population. Nevertheless, interpretation is necessary with regard to the methodological limitations of the study and the specific population.
